April 25, 2013 Fellow Cabiners,
Last
night, our Club was at its best.We were honored to host the California Republican Vice Chairman, Harmeet
Dhillon and the Bay Area Republican Regional Vice Chairman, Kevin Krick who gave thorough updates about the status of our
Party and their plans and goals. Their presentations were frank and detailed. Our members were given great insight into our
Party’s operations. Like all present, I was excited that our Club was among the first Republican organizations to hear
much of what was said. The Log Cabin Republican Club of San Francisco is among the oldest Log Cabin chapters - some would say
it is the oldest. From its beginning, a large part of our chapter’s strength has been that, while its membership has changed,
its basic foundation has been carefully preserved and strengthened. That has been achieved by means of a set of carefully
thought out and regularly revised By Laws. Last night, we all felt closer than ever to the Republican
Party. Making our Club an ever more valuable part of our Party is among my highest goals. Many of you are already very active
in the Party. In fact, after meeting with Cabiners from around the country last weekend, it is clear to me that no other chapter
is more involved with their local and state Republican organizations than ours. We should all be very proud
of that. I suspect that Harmeet and Kevin inspired those who may not be active, to think about “jumping in”. All
members of our Board are ready to help you get started. Just contact any one of them. Over the years, our By Laws have been modified to meet the needs of
our changing Party, our changing Community and the changing political environment. That process will also continue. We have an extraordinarily committed membership of
serious, intelligent, principled and very busy people. When I became your president last year, I realized that to expand our
activities, to get our Club increasingly involved in both our Party and Community, we needed to increase our membership. It also was clear to me that there are many LGBT
Republicans in our Area who, for whatever reasons, have not found their way to our Club. I believe that being a “home”
for them is among our Club’s most important purposes. To those ends, I proposed to our Board that we create a new Board position dedicated to membership
recruitment. - I envisioned someone given wide flexibility to look for ways to utilize our current actives and resources and
seek new ways to do that. This Board member would be free to look at every aspect of our Community in that effort, including
other LGBT organizations, media, and systems and activities never before considered. After discussion, the Board wrote a proposal
to create this new position, called Membership Chairman, and an amendment to our By Laws was written to be offered to you
for consideration. During that process, the Board realized that if you were to be asked to consider an
amendment, other possibly needed changes should be considered to avoid repeated By Law votes. The Board looked at every section
of our By Laws and came up with proposals that would clarify and improve them and, in some cases, bring them in line with
requirements of County and State Republican rules. You received the
proposals and Jason Clark moved them to the floor at last night’s meeting. I know I speak for the Board in saying I was humbled that they were unanimously approved. I cannot
thank you enough for that. You can
find the newly-approved By Laws in the attachment, on our FaceBook page and in our web site. Now, it’s time to get down to business.
We have a new Board position. I will open the floor to nominations and then to a vote to fill it at our May meeting. I believe
any one of you would be ideal for it. Please give it serious thought over the next few weeks.
Yes, it will add to your already busy life, but I guarantee, it will be among the most rewarding, interesting and possibly
unique things you’ve ever done. The Membership Chairman position is contained in our By Laws at:
Article V: Board of Directors §1,g. The Membership Chairman shall actively
endeavor to increase the Club’s membership. The Membership Chairman shall propose to the Board actions intended to increase
the number of Club members and report the status of all ongoing actions and plans to increase the Club’s membership
to the Club Membership and Board at all meetings If you have any questions about the position, don’t hesitate to contact any Board member or me. You
can write to sf@logcabin.org If you wish to contact a specific
Board member, just identify them and you will receive their email address. You also can find Board email addresses in the
Organization tab of www.logcabinclubofsanfrancisco.org I can always be reached at 415-810-6752. Yes, last night was Log Cabin at its best and you made it so. Thank you for being a member. Fred President, Log Cabin Republican Club of San Francisco
